Is-sinjal għal NEFAQ jew BERBAQ isir b’id waħda forma ta’ L biż-żewġt iswaba’ kkurvati u jmissu ma xulxin bil-pala tħares ’l ġewwa. L-id tiċċaqlaq mill-polz bi skossi żgħar ’il fuq u ’l barra. L-espressjoni tal-wiċċ u r-rat tal-moviment jistgħu jservu biex jenfasizzaw l-grad tan-nefqa (nefaq ħafna versus berbaq). It-tieni sinjal bħall-ewwel wieħed imma il-moviment jibda mill-ġenb tal-qadd fejn ikun il-but u jkun hemm skoss wieħed biss ’il barra.
The sign for SPEND or SQUANDER is made with one hand in the shape of L with the two fingers curved over and touching each other and with the palm facing inwards. The hand moves jerkily up and out from the wrist. The facial expression and rate of movement can serve to emphasise the extent of the spending (spend a lot versus squander). The second sign is similar but the movement starts at the side at waist level where the pocket is and only one jerky movement outwards is made.
